Beginning at the Kareri, you walk through dense forests of mixed pine and broadleaf for 1.5 hours; although it is advised to stay wary of pine needles scattered on the ground. Birdwatchers can spot the black drongo and red-billed magpie on the way. You will soon hit a metal road and after walking on it for another 15 minutes, you will hit the Nolli Bridge. After a curve before the bridge, the trail goes again into the forest. You can stop for snacks at the shack near the curve. Climb a few steps along, ascending after crossing a waterfall, there is another shack to relax. Moving on, cross the Nyund River via a metal bridge and reach the grassland along the banks of the river. Birdwatchers note, you can spot birds here such as brown dipper, redstart, warbler and even Himalayan griffon vultures. Walk for anther 15 minutes to reach the banks of Reoti. The place makes for a picturesque setting, complete with valley views and a stream flowing right next to you. You will find a shop at Reoti that sells packaged foods, meals, tents and sleeping bags. After walking for 1 hour from Reoti, you will find a shack which is the last rest-halt before Kareri Lake. Proceed from there onto the rocky crossing to go across the nallah and reach stone steps taking you to the hilltop where you will find a Shiva temple. From there, you can also spot the Kareri Lake which can be reached by following the trail along its banks. From this point, you can also get a glimpse of the Dhauladhar range and a trail going up to the Minkaini Pass, which lies around 7 kms from the lake. We went to Minkiani Pass trek and it was one of the best treks I have been. Travel N Trek crew were very humble and friendly. They organised this trek very well. Especially Alex bhai, his dedication and commitment is unmatchable. He is the best.
