If you’re a trek lover, then Bhrigu Lake Trek is one trip that you need to strike off your bucket list. The best part of this trek is that you don’t need to be an expert to ascend the slopes of this Himalayan slope. But before you enrol yourself into the trek, you should do your homework first. Bhrigu Lake is located at a height of 4,300 metres above the sea level in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Talking about the landscape, the snow-covered mountains are one of the favourite spots for thrill-seeking globetrotters. The Bhrigu Lake Trek begins from the Vashsishth Temple which is close to the town of Manali. The place is popular among the travellers for its hot water springs. Talking about the lake, it is named after the renowned Hindu sage Maharishi Bhrigu.
According to the legends, the much-revered sage Maharishi Bhrigu used to meditate at the banks of the lake, hence the place got its name. The locals even believe that due to the holiness of the lake, the lake never freezes completely even in harsh winters.
Bhrigu Lake Trek has become popular for its breath-taking view and fascinating natural landscape. Due to high altitude, it’s not as crowded as other popular trek destinations. If you’re planning to go out for a Bhrigu Lake Trek, then the best season to go there is Mid May to October. The weather is always optimum hovering between 20-25 degrees Celsius. In winters, the temperatures plummet to 10-15 degree Celsius. Half of the year, the lake remains frozen but even then the travellers like to flock the place.
It is advised to everyone to carry trekking shoes and enough warm clothes with you. Also, carry water from Gulaba as the trek doesn’t have water sources in its way. And above all, you should be physically fit to carry out this trek, or any trek for that matter. Even a mild health complication amplifies by many times at height. If you have any existing health conditions like asthma, high blood pressure, heart problem, then you’re not advised to take this trek.

Day 1: Arrival at Manali- Drive to Gulaba - Trek from Gulaba to Rola Khuli
The trip will begin at Manali bus stand by 9 am max. After some refreshment, you will be taken to Gulaba by shared cab. The trek will begin from Gulaba to base camp which is situated at Rola Khuli. It usually takes 3-4 hours of trek to reach the base camp. The camp will be set at Rola Khuli under the sky full of stars. The base camp is situated at a height of 12,566 ft above the sea level.
Day 2: From Rola Khuli to Bhrigu Lake and back to Rola Khuli
The day will start early with the sunrise. Enjoy the many hues of sunrise at Rola Khuli base camp and click some social media-worthy pictures. After the breakfast, the trek to Bhrigu Lake will commence since it’s a long and tiring one. The trek comprises of 3.5km of steep climb up to Lake Bhrigu. You will also cross a river and walk the through the grassy patches of road. The last 1 kilometre of the trek consists of huge rocks that need to be ascended. During rains or snow, these boulders get slippery; hence it is advised to wear proper trekking shoes. On reaching Bhrigu Lake, all your fatigue will go for a run. The mesmerising view is worth all the pain. There would be no night stay at Lake Bhrigu. You will return to Rola Khuli on the same day.
Day 3: Rola Khuli to Gulaba and drive back to Manali
After returning to Rola Khuli, you will stay in an overnight camp. You can enjoy the view and hone your inner photographer. In the morning itself, you will begin your journey to Gulaba which is an easier trek as compared to the previous ones. From Gulaba you will be taken back to Manali in a shared cab after some refreshments. From Manali, you can board a bus to your city or explore the Himachali paradise further.
